What web hosting is
A web host provides diskspace on a large computer that is permanently connected to the Internet, called a server. When you "buy" web space, you really only rent a portion of the storage space of a server. Internet users then call up the page from the server.
Many service providers (notably Intekom and M-Web) give their clients free personal web space (usualy around 5 Megabytes) which means you are not allowed to load a business web site into it - only personal web sites like a hobby or academic site.
Absolutely. Your site has to be hosted on a server for it to be accessible from the Internet.
There are companies (mostly U.S. based) that offer free web hosting. You can get free hosting from them even if you are down here in S.A. The catch is that they'll display an advertisement at the top of every page of your site.
We don't host sites ourselves, but we've negotiated a very attractive package with a major South African Internet host.
We can't publish prices here, because we don't control them. When you fill out the order form for your web site, remember to indicate that you want web hosting. That way we'll know to include it in your free quote.
