Credit cards are the preferred method of payment for almost all Internet consumers. By now, they have come to expect the ease and speed of paying by credit card. You will probably loose business if you expect them to write a check.

If you are limiting your business to South Africa, you should give online customers the option of paying by means of a bank transfer, but offer that as an extra convenience - not the only option.

To accept credit cards, you need:

a) A credit card merchant account
b) A credit card processing service

If you already accept credit cards at your offline store, speak to your bank about extending these capabilities to your web site. Most banks are not eager, but you'll save money if you can get them to bite.
